the-home-project * is a design studio founded in 2004 by Albio Nascimento and Kathi Stertzig. The studio designs products and curates exhibitions & campaigns throughout Europe.

We strongly believe in authentic simplicity, drawn from the curiosity and passion for making things. For us design is a continuous learning process where consciousness is key.
By engaging in social and cultural research, we produce experimental designs that explore sensitive atmospheres and pose disturbing questions about material culture and tradition.

The studio is based in Berlin-Germany and Faro-Portugal.

Kathi Stertzig, born in Germany, works and lives mainly in Berlin. After her education in interior design in Hanover and Milan, she graduated in 2003 at the Design Academy Eindhoven, Netherlands. Since 2008 she teaches product design at the Bauhaus-University Weimar and is directing social campaigns and exhibitions, as well as developing own product- and interior design ideas. She is specialized in project-management and in socially driven developments of design products and concepts.

Albio Nascimento, originally from Portugal, lives and works in Berlin and Faro, Portugal. His training in interior and product design in Lisbon and Milan led to his special interest in researching the significance of home and housing through cultures. Since 2005 he is curating DesignForFuture, an annual exhibition on sustainable design. He continues to pursue his research on cultural innovation and vernacular crafts, about which he recently submitted his MA thesis. Currently he's lecturing at the FH Potsdam, Germany.
