Delicate everyday fine tableware
We share a fixation with friend and potter Ricardo Lopes: simple red clay.Together we have been exploring extensively the natural properties and behaviors of this material, its traditional applications but also new ones. Ricardo turns the clay very thin and by firing on high temperatures it becomes extremely hard – far more than usual terracotta objects. This process fosters a refinement of terracotta into something akin to porcelain or chinaware.
This set is the pioneering materialization of this process. With a transparent finishing glaze inside and on the upper top we want to reveal the beauty of this natural material. Traces will become part of the aging process as more the pieces are used. This usefulness is key to create beauty in everyday things.
