A survey with a formative approach
Mapping and consulting on craft activities from three islands: Terceira, São Jorge and the northeast of São Miguel.
The CRAA (Azores Regional Center for Crafts) is engaged in developing the artisan’s entrepreneurship and innovation skills, in order to enable craft production units to diversify and differentiate products.
In each island we visited the artisans at their workplace. Engaging in meaningful discussions to explore the goals and perspective of each artisan, cooperative or workshop, on the future of their activities. Also, we debated on the advantages of using local raw materials and how reach affirmation in new commercial circuits.
This intervention resulted in a report that gives CRAA the guidelines to intervene accurately and responsively in these territories. Some of the measures appointed, such as specific design residences and improving communication for some craft businesses, are already being implemented.
